Spring Lambs
The weekly sale of prime lambs had less forward this week with a horrendous weather over the weekend and many farmers busy with gimmer lambs this week. Topping the day’s trade was Jonathan and Josie Smith of Stanley Farm selling Beltex lambs to £91 or 212p/kg selling to Gregory Williams’s butchers of Lancaster. Well-finished fed lambs were easiest to sell with grass fed lambs tough to place at the moment with the grass being short of feed with this bad weather. Also selling into the eighties was F & IM Potter of Grayrigg selling to £85 and £82 for Texels. A few more mules on the market sold to £74.50 from JS & S Atkinson of Sykes Farm.
Cast Sheep
A smaller entry of cast sheep in the market today with fit and well-fleshed sheep good to sell and less demand for the leaner types. Big ewes topped at £94 from MJ & K Ayrton of Bamber farm for continentals. Plenty of ewes selling in and around the seventy pound today.
